Curtis Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5 departed Naval Base Ventura County Port Hueneme, Calif., in support of ongoing construction operations in the Pacific and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility, Feb. 4. NMCB 5 will conduct a turnover with NMCB 4, Feb.16, at Camp Shields, Okinawa, and join NMCB 11 currently conducting operations in Oceania.

The battalion will take charge of Construction Civic Action Details in the Philippines, Cambodia and Timor-Leste, as well as Construction Readiness Operations in support of Navy and Marine Corps installations in Okinawa and Yokosuka, Japan; Diego Garcia; and San Clemente Island, Calif. Seabees have a continual presence in the Pacific and have been involved in missions supporting U.S. forces and developing relationships with partner nations in the Pacific since their inception in 1942.
