CSFE Det. SAFB chiefs and first class petty officers cook breakfast at the 58th Annual University of Kiwanis Pancake Festival, Wichita Falls, Texas. Chiefs and first class petty officers at the Center for Seabees and Facilities Engineering Detachment, Sheppard Air Force Base (CSFE Det. SAFB), volunteered at the 58th Annual University Kiwanis Club Pancake Festival, Wichita Falls, Texas, helping to cook and serve an all- you-can-eat pancake breakfast. Proceeds from the event benefited many charities including Kiwanis Park, Builders Club, Children s Miracle Network, Key Club, Junior Livestock Show, Wichita Falls Area Food Bank, Circle K Club, ARC (Camp Harmony), MSU Scholarships, Wichita Falls State Hospital Bingo, Lucy Park Easter Egg Hunt, SAFB Adopted Squadron and Kiwanis International. The staff at CSFE Det. SAFB volunteered at this year s event to give back to the community. This event illustrates the intention of the CPO 365 Program, initiated by the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Mike Stevens. The purpose of the program is to guide, mentor and develop first class petty officers to enhance their personal and professional development, and prepare them to compete for advancement to the rate of chief. We wanted to do something that would get us away from the office, let us all work together and show the value of giving back to the community here in Wichita Falls while supporting the MCPON Guidance on CPO 365, said CECS (SCW) Joseph Johnson, assistant officer in charge, CSFE Det. SAFB. The annual Kiwanis Pancake Festival raises funds to support operations, scholarships, handicapped access ramps to homes, school events and local food banks. This year, more than 11,000 people attended. The chiefs and petty officers assisted in the cooking, preparation and distribution of 800-plus pounds of sausage and countless gallons of beverages, all while improving camaraderie, morale and communication among staff members. It was fun to be able to work side by side with the chiefs while having normal conversations working together outside the office, and helping the community at the same time. It showed me that they re well-disciplined leaders at work, and really down-to-earth people who have fun after a tough week, said UT1 Charles Kille.
