Our new format comes none too soon as the extraordinary dynamics of our Seabees is showcased in print and video from California where Seabees from NMCB 3, returning from a FEX, helped save the lives of a family as they literally teetered on the edge of a bridge after a horrific automobile crash. It's our lead story and embodies the CAN DO spirit of Seabees everywhere. Thanks to the technology of the Internet you'll be able to do a lot more than simply read their stories - you'll hear them tell it in their own words.

Halfway across the world, Seabees have built a bridge for commerce. In Afghanistan, NMCB 4 Bees completed the Musa Qal'eh crossing so local residents can now travel to the Gereshk Road and Helmand province's capital, Lashkar Gah. Wars are won with far more than bullets and the Seabees know it as they continue to enable Afghan freedom through bridges, roads, water wells and other engineering projects that make overcoming tyranny a little bit easier every day.

The Seabees are building peace with freedom worldwide through their participation in Southern Partnership, numerous projects such as Obangame Express in the Horn of Africa and throughout the Pacific theater. You'll be able to see and hear many of their stories here on Seabee Magazine Online.

Seabees can build barriers in the form of a wall or outpost but they can also break them, especially in today s Navy. One Seabee recently shattered the gender barrier by becoming the first female Seabee to reach the rank of Construction Mechanic Master Chief. We have EQCM(SCW) Kathy Keith's story to inspire you.

As you can see, we're breaking our own new ground here at Seabee. We look forward to hearing about what you like and what suggestions you have to make our magazine even better. Tell us what you think! We're excited to be able to provide video and welcome the social experience with Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. After all, the Seabees impact to the world happens in all dimensions and the people who tell your story should at the very least be able to communicate the very same way.

CAN DO!
