U.S. Navy Seabees Aid in Rehabilitation of U.S.S. Rushmore

Story by Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center Public Affairs SAN DIEGO On May 14, two Mobile Utilities Support Equipment (MUSE) technicians from Naval Facilities (NAVFAC) Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (EXWC) deployed and installed two mobile substations on Naval Base San Diego in support of the USS Rushmore (LSD 47). EXWC MUSEs team provides necessary power resources used to conduct maintenance and overhaul equipment in-line with ships planned maintenance interval. By choosing EXWC MUSE assets to complete the mission, the US Navy avoided a 7.8-million-dollar upkeep expense, allowing the unused funds to supply necessary upgrades to the USS Rushmore. Other services EXWC MUSE supports include providing portable diesel engine-driven generators, substations, and switchgear to meet utility shortcomings for US. Navy Activities and the U.S. Marine Corps, in accordance with DOD and non-DOD activities per justification and approval.
