Holding with tradition, the Naval Construction Training Center (NCTC) in Port Hueneme, Calif., celebrated the 72
nd birthday of the U.S. Navy Seabees at Stinger s Field, March 5.
Every year we look forward to celebrating our heritage by remembering the birthday of the Seabees, said Cmdr. Daniel Cook, NCTC commanding officer. It's an awesome tradition and always a lot of fun. We really appreciate all of the hard work by the staff and the support from the commissary that made this event so enjoyable for the students.
The event was attended by more than 190 students and staff, who participated in a number of activities, including softball, flag football and ultimate Frisbee.
Construction mechanic students enjoyed a spirited game of kickball between Navy and Air Force students. Instructor CM1 Carl Gayton volunteered to sit in the dunk tank, while students and staff took turns in hopes of getting him wet. Also, students from A School competed in a Seabee history-themed trivia game for prizes donated by the Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) commissary.
As a U.S. Army retiree, now employed as a Navy civilian, I am very fortunate to be able to witness the professionalism, dedication and positive attitude of our new Sailors who are training to become Bees, said Angela Mora, NCTC environmental coordinator and a key planner of the event. With the support from the entire command staff and the NBVC commissary, we were able to bring a big smile to our young Sailors' faces and let them know that we were thinking of them and wishing them a Happy Seabee Birthday.
