CECN April Schwertman, NMCB 5, emerges from the muddy water at the Jungle Warfare Training Center, Okinawa, Japan, April 24.
More than 60 Seabees assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5 completed a grueling obstacle course at the Jungle Warfare Training Center, Okinawa, Japan, April 24.
The course is designed to prepare U.S. Marines and joint forces for the rigors of combat in a dense jungle environment. Goaded on by Marine instructors, Seabees tackled the endurance course – a nearly 4–mile obstacle course through jungle terrain – as the capstone of the week–long training. The training center, located in 17,500 acres of dense jungle complete with poisonous spiders and at least three species of venomous snakes, allows the Marines to train like they fight. In this case, the Seabees trained like Marines, too. Can Do!
NMCB 5 is currently deployed to Japan and several countries in the Pacific area of operations.
