All Naval Construction Force (NCF) units are required to maintain a high state of operational readiness. Embarkation Training Exercises (ETXs) help enable each unit to be capable of rapidly and efficiently embarking aboard assigned aircraft or ships, and mounting-out by tactical or non-tactical road convoys. Standard operating procedures for embarkation planning, training and record keeping must be maintained.

Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 11 conducted a 24-hour exercise involving scenarios targeting crew leaders and their crews aboard Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport, June 19.

While familiarization with ETX procedures is often covered in both the classroom and in the field, this exercise specifically provided in-depth, hands-on practice for those involved.

“It takes a few time to get the process down,” said Builder 3rd Class Remie Acosta assigned to NMCB 11. “Once you’ve done each step a couple times, it just becomes natural.”

This scenario involved preparing 15 pieces of equipment, eight pallets of supplies and all the associated paperwork for shipping via air to another location. Each piece goes through a cleaning and maintenance process, and then is weighed, measured, and marked for transport and staged for inspection.

“Everyone performed outstanding during this 24-hour evolution,” said Chief Equipment Operator Roland Bishop. “Overall, this will make us mission ready for a short fused response time, where time is crucial.”
