CAMP LEMONNIER, Djibouti, Aug 2, 2013 — After 150 days in scorching temperatures, hammers, shovels, and saws are put away and Combined Joint Task Force–Horn of Africa Seabees and leaders finally paused to reflect on numerous accomplishments.

Seabees of the U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 4 received a Flag Letter of Commendation recently during an awards ceremony at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, July 20, 2013. NMCB 4, deployed from Port Hueneme, Calif., were presented the FLOC, by U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Terry Ferrell, CJTF–HOA commanding general.

“After working with Seabees for the past 10 years, they still never cease to amaze me,” said U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Jackson Habeck, officer in charge of NMCB 4 detachment. “They have done it faster, safer and with the best quality.”

According to the award citation, members of this battalion received this award for their successful completion of multiple construction projects across the Horn of Africa throughout their six–month deployment.

“It was nice for the troops to see that their hard work and dedication is being recognized”, said U. S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class David Allmer, NMCB 4 construction builder. One project, a high–visibility Manda Bay runway extension project on the Kenyan Naval Base took roughly 14 Seabees only four months to complete.

The ceremony concluded with praises from leaders and peers across CJTF–HOA.

“They have embodied the “Can Do” Seabee legacy and can proudly hold their heads up knowing they have truly made a difference.” Habeck said.
